1980 onward

Modern classic cocktails

Recent enough that we usually know who invented them, established enough that a good bar is expected to know them.

The modern classic is an unusual category: drinks young enough to have a documented author and a documented date, which almost nothing older does. That makes them the one part of the canon where the history section's evidence problems largely disappear.

They also tend to be more forgiving than the pre-Prohibition canon — a little sweeter, a little longer, and often built around an ingredient rather than a template. That is not a criticism; it is why several of them became popular enough to stick.

How this list is built

Recipes placed in the modern era (1980 onward) in the catalogue's curated era data.

Nothing on this page is hand-picked or sponsored — the list comes straight from the recipe data, so it stays correct as the catalogue grows. Lists only exist once enough real recipes match; that is why some categories you might expect aren't here yet.
