Post-repeal drinking: tiki, the vodka boom, and the drinks that defined the decades the craft revival reacted against.
The mid-century has a poor reputation in drinks writing, most of it earned by the 1970s rather than the 1940s. What actually happened was two things at once: tiki bars were doing some of the most technically ambitious rum work ever attempted, while the mainstream bar drifted toward pre-mixes and brand-led simplicity.
Both strands are here, and the difference between them is instructive. A Zombie and a Harvey Wallbanger are the same era and almost different crafts.
