Maraschino Cherry
A maraschino cherry is a preserved cherry, brined then steeped in sugar syrup and often dyed bright red, prized for its sweet, glossy garnish appeal rather than for adding real flavour complexity. Higher-end versions use less dye and more natural cherry character. It is one of the most recognizable cocktail garnishes.
Common uses
- garnish for shaken and built cocktails
Buying & storage
A few days: Good for a few days refrigerated, then noticeably duller. Worth planning a second drink around rather than throwing away.
